University of Miami School of Nursing

Coral Gables, Florida

Nine adjacent crystal panels form a 12-foot-high mural of elegant cranes in flight in the main entrance to the M. Christine Schwartz Center for Nursing and Health Studies. The etched and intricately carved crystal, luminous with its magnificent upward flight of ibis cranes, expresses courage, care, innovation, striving, and generosity. The upward gesture of the nine-foot-wide composition encourages viewers to look up, a positive, hopeful movement that is symbolic of vision and the future.

Deep V-carved letters "pop" holographically within the etched artwork. Certain feathers and wing tips are etched deeper to catch the light in a different way. Edge-lit with custom, brilliant white state-of-the-art LED lighting and held in sleek maple brackets, the installation also features eye-catching reddish accents in the beaks and feet of the birds.
