This 18-foot-long carved crystal mural sits at the lobby entrance to the zoo's new Underwater Dolphin Experience. A glowing band of carved "threads," shifting from red to violet and then cobalt blue, guide visitors from the warm outdoors into the cool blue underwater world. This tapestry of color reveals inspirational texts and displays the names of donors. Art images to delight and intrigue families are embedded in the design. A series of child's-eye-level "treasure-box" images, such as fish tails, a seahorse and a manta ray, surround a beautiful antique compass rose from an old nautical sailors' map and a magnifying glass offering glimpses "inside" the images.
